Julia's Visit - Day 8

The final day of Julia's visit had come, but she was not leaving without some last minute (perhaps more relaxed) activities! After days of passing by Zippy's restaurants, the girls decided that they'd try it out, so for breakfast, we buzzed over to the Zippy's in Kailua. Zippy's is extremely popular here in Hawaii with the locals. My mid-western tastes are somewhat confounded by their menu though and we do not frequent them. But today, we wanted to try out some of their Breakfast fare. One of their specialties is called a "Loco Moco"

A Loco Moco is a big blob of rice, topped with a hamburger patty (or SPAM), a couple of eggs and smothered with brown gravy with a side of macaroni salad. True traditionalists serve the whole thing piled in one big pile. Zippy's serves it in separate piles (as does McDonald's). In the spirit of Julia's week in Hawaii trying new things, here is evidence that Julia tried even a Loco Moco!

After breakfast, the girls wanted to shop around Kailua for a while, so we parked the car and walked through the shops. I enjoyed seeing them shopping and chatting. Oddly enough, they didn't stop in to the Radio Shack or Hardware store... go figure.

Soon, it was time to take Brooke & Stefenie to the airport for their flight. We got them checked-in and watched them head towards the gate. This left us with plenty of time (Julia's flight wasn't until almost 11:00pm). So we headed home to get Julia's things packed up and go for one more walk on Kailua beach with my girl...

The sun was setting behind the hills and it looked like they were on fire! A classic, windy evening at Kailua Beach and a perfect end to a week in Hawaii. All too soon, we were on our way back to the airport to see Julia off.

The airport that had been almost deserted in the middle of the day was now busy with lots of people. Honolulu Airport departs many flights late in the evening... Julia checked in her bags and made her way back to the gate as we waved goodbye.

Julia is a sweet, beautiful, remarkably positive woman. She has a determined spirit and charts her own course. I really enjoyed having her here and have missed her a lot since she left. She has taught me many things. I look forward to watching her grow and seeing her life unfold in the years to come. I look forward to the opportunity to bring her out for a visit again - wherever I end up - and join in her spirit of exploration and adventure.

Thanks Julia! I love you!
