Global Girl

For many parents, fear of failure is always on their mind. More specifically, many fear the failure of their kids. Fortunately, this is a fear I have seldom felt. It's always exciting to see your kids succeed. It's even more gratifying to have confidence in them as they grow.

While both of my daughters have done amazing things with their lives, Julia is now participating in a spectacularly bold event: an independent archeology dig in Orvieto, Italy! That's right, Julia is now outside of Rome discovering artifacts that date back to the time of Christ.

Julia had to make this trip happen and it wasn't all that simple. She personally arranged her travel and accommodations as well as fit the timing of her month-long trip into her school and work schedule. In every sense, she has done amazing things. Amazingly enough, she was able to call me from her cell phone when she arrived. Imagine Julia's personal phone connecting with my personal phone and talking from 1/2-way around the world! When Julia was born, such technology didn't even exist!

She is safe and having a great time. Would I have expected otherwise? Not really. I have always believed in Julia and her big sister, Jessica. More than the unconditional love of a parent, I know that God will bless their lives far beyond my own. Around the world or across the street, Julia will turn up successful.

So Julia, have a wonderful memorable time, return home safely and relish the positive blessing that you have from God.
... and don't forget to update your blog!
:-)
